White Dudes are Pissed
Everything is relative, of course, and whites' loss of power and privilege is no different. The same trends that have Black Americans more optimistic, have whites grinding their teeth and pulling their hair. Most of them are being convinced by the right-wing propaganda machines that it's all a zero-sum game, and anyone else's gain is their loss.
The losses -- real and perceived -- are what is producing the rage. Some of the losses are real. For example: white police officers can no longer just check the correct boxes on the report to slough off responsibility for killing unarmed black or brown people. Now a sprinkling of them will have to stand trial, though they will only be convicted fewer than 29 times per 1,000 instances. (see)
Assuming one of the thugs leading the GOP melee doesn't manage to steal it, the next President will be either a woman or a Jew to succeed the Black man. My guess is, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
