Start of Summer

It's now Memorial Day weekend in the US, the unofficial start of summer.  Of course, that's not why it's called Memorial Day.  This is a holiday that was established - originally as Decoration Day - to honor the memory of our war dead.  It was first intended for the Civil War dead but after WW1 it was expanded.

"Decoration Day," for decorating the graves.

So now, of course, it's when we have barbeques, furniture sales, and the Indy 500.

Sometimes, we are SO AMERICAN, I could just barf.
