Assume Goodwill

When I read this lament, I was immediately reminded of something we were taught emphatically at Speak-Out training by the GAGV.

Assume goodwill.

When someone says something that can be taken as offensive, even discriminatory, assume they are misinformed.  Take an opportunity to help them learn something.  A surprisingly large proportion of the people will show you that they really meant well, and really appreciate the chance to be better.  As long as you're not too overbearing....

Don't worry; if they are not people of goodwill, you'll know soon enough.
