Are fall colors muted for you, wherever (in the northern temperate zones) you are reading this? Upstate NY is noted for spectacular displays, but this year many people around the state have noted that the color show is delayed, and much less brilliant than typical.
This is our next-door neighbors' Japanese Maple. Usually at this time of year, the entire tree is the color that we see now on just those two bright red spots. It is quite an eye-popping display
Experts are saying that the good weather we've been having is actually keeping the leaves going at producing chlorophyll later in the season than they usually would. So we might still get a brilliant leaf season.
