Mmm, Sausage

USA Today just published a story about hot dogs, which I do enjoy and will probably continue to enjoy after this.
Cognitive dissonance be damned.
DNA analysis of a large sampling of hot dogs has found human DNA in about 2% of those tested, various meats in 10% of the "vegetarian" hot dogs tested, and what they demurely call "hygienic issues" in 14% of all hot dogs -- and a whopping 66% of vegetarian ones.
It turns out that "hygienic issues" means "non-harmful contaminants." It's a mighty narrow span of items that seem to this layman to fit that category.
