This Is Real Life

I found this a while ago. Blogging it for the first time.

I give up nothing to anyone in my love of Queen, but I have been to a concert (with Freddie!) and seen many films, and I have never seen them attempt the operatic bridge live. Yes, Panic at the Disco did slightly simplify the arrangement, but… still!

30 Day Challenge

How Facebook-y for someone who deleted Facebook years ago

I have been having fun with this on Pluspora, a Diaspora pod. I never really expected to get into this but it has kind of taken on a life of its own. And I get to share with dozen of readers, a detailed look at my musical tastes. Who doesn’t love doing that?

This and the next two entries will run down my choices. I think a lot of these are obvious choices, but then I am a music fan – not a scholar.

Day #1 A song you like with a color in the title:

commenters mentioned others but this is a favorite Stones piece

Day #2 A song with a number in the title.

This one was easy-peasy-lemon-squeezie.

Not even close. (I was saving “Jenny” for another category, by the way.)

I saw them in concert in Dec 1977. They did this song on the apron of the stage, just an acoustic guitar and a bass drum.

Day #3 A song that reminds me of summertime

I deliberately shied away from Summertime Blues and Summer in the City and so on. Just wanted it to be a little more… elliptical. The day described in the Van Morrison song doesn’t have to have been in the summer… but you know it was.

More to come…

Part 2 here

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

I hope it’s the former. I fear it’s the latter.

You won’t believe what happens next!

It would be funny. Some diehard Pumpkin-lovers would be like that just to own the libs, I guess.

Now the title I placed on this entry was required because it’s been too long since I posted a Queen music video, and of course it has to be the grand-daddy of them all.

Greatest Concert? Probably.

They call the Queen concert at Wembley Stadium in 1986 the greatest concert of all time.  I am not sure they are right, simply because it’s impossible to have sampled the entire space.

But I am not sure they are wrong.  Not least because of… this.

I always stop and listen when this comes around.

Bonus opinion: they had better do right by him in this movie.

There’s already a lot of chatter that they are missing the boat.  I am reserving judgment until I get to see it in a theater.

Falling In and Out

Listening to Pandora, I get this song in the random play-list quite often.

Well, not all of it – just the first of the three tracks.

I can’t even thumbs-down it, because I like the band and I like the album.  I don’t want to put Pandora off it.  But of course it’s the second of the three that really shines.  If only Pandora would play them together!

And now that we’re thinking about this issue, you know there’s another serious violation of this principle coming up.

Either of the paired tracks here played alone is just agonizing.
